Tum Karoh Daya Mere Sai - by Bhagat Ram Prasad

"Tum Karoh Daya Mere Sai" is a heartfelt plea from a devotee to the Divine. Although it's not technically a shabad (a hymn from the Guru Granth Sahib), it's a popular bhajan (devotional song) often sung in Sikh settings. It's attributed to Bhagat Ram Prasad, a renowned poet and devotee of Lord Rama.

Meaning in essence:

This bhajan is a humble prayer for divine grace and guidance. The devotee expresses their longing to constantly remember and meditate on the Lord. They are willing to serve the saints and sing God's praises with every breath. They believe that even a moment spent remembering the divine name can bring peace and fulfillment.

The bhajan emphasizes the importance of sincere devotion and selfless service as true forms of worship. It concludes with the devotee expressing their contentment and fulfillment through chanting the divine name.

While not a traditional Sikh Shabad, this bhajan beautifully captures the essence of devotion and surrender to the Divine, themes that resonate deeply within Sikhism as well.

Bhajan:

Tum karo daya mere Saai ||
Have mercy on me, my Lord and Master.

Aisee mat deejai mere Thakur sadaa sadaa thudhh dhi-aaee ||
Bless me with such understanding, O my Lord and Master, that I may forever and ever meditate on You.

Paanee pakhaa peeso sant aagai gun govind jas gaaee ||
I carry the water, wave the fan, and grind the corn for the Saints; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

Saas saas man naam samhaarai eihu bisraam nidhh paaee ||
With each and every breath, my mind remembers the Naam, the Name of the Lord; in this way, it finds the treasure of peace.

Mukh te nimakh bulaai ||
I call upon You with my mouth, even for an instant.

Tum karo daya mere Saai ||
Have mercy on me, my Lord and Master.

Jaap thaap bhagat saa pooree jo prabh kai man bhaaee ||
That alone is perfect chanting, meditation, penance and devotional worship service, which is pleasing to God's Mind.

Naam japath thrisanaa sabh bujhee hai Naanak thripath aghaaee ||
Chanting the Naam, all thirst and desire is satisfied; Nanak is satisfied and fulfilled.
