O mortal, what is mine, and what is yours?
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਉ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जब लगु घट महि सासु है तब लगु दुनिया भउ करे ॥੧॥ रहाउ ॥
Jab lag ghat mehi saas hai thab lag dhuneeaa bha-o karay ||1|| rahaau||
As long as there is breath in the body, the world fears you. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਬੁਦਬੁਦਾ ਉਪਜੈ ਬੁਦਬੁਦੇ ਕਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਕਾ ਥੇਹੁ ॥
जिउ जल ते बुदबुदा उपजै बुदबुदे का माटी का थेहु ॥
Ji-o jal thae budbudhaa upjai budbudhae kaa maatee kaa thaehu ||
Just as a bubble arises from the water, the bubble's place is in the mud.
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਣੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਸਮਾਨਾ ਐਸੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਹਿ ਦੇਹੁ ॥੧॥
जिउ पानी महि पानी समाना ऐसे ही जीवत महि देहु ॥੧॥
Ji-o paanee mehi paanee samaanaa aise hee jeevat mehi daehu ||1||
Just as water merges with water, in the same way, the soul merges with the Supreme Soul. ||1||
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਮਾਟੀ ਕਾ ਢੇਹੁ ॥
कहत कबीर सुनहु रे प्रानी इहु सरीरु माटी का ढेहु ॥
Kehath Kabeer sunahu rae praanee eihu sareer maatee kaa dhaehu ||
Says Kabeer, listen, O mortal, this body is a mound of mud.
ਜਿਉ ਬਨ ਫਲ ਪਕੈ ਛਨ ਮਹਿ ਐਸੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਕਤ ਮਹਿ ਦੇਹੁ ॥੨॥੨॥
जिउ बन फल पकै छन महि ऐसे ही साकत महि देहु ॥२॥२॥
Ji-o ban phal pakai chhan mehi aise hee saakat mehi daehu ||2||2||
Just as the fruit in the forest ripens in an instant, in the same way, the faithless cynic's body perishes. ||2||2||
